How to Choose Motorcycle Speakers: A Buyer's Guide
Share
Upgrading your motorcycle speakers is the single biggest sound improvement most riders can make — but only if you pick the right ones. Here is what actually matters.
1. Sensitivity is king on a bike
On a motorcycle you are fighting wind and exhaust noise, so efficiency matters more than raw wattage. Look for high-sensitivity speakers (100 dB or more). The DB Drive WDX MOTO line, for example, is built for exactly this — loud and clear at highway speed without needing a massive amplifier.
2. Match the size to your fairing or bags
Most fairings take 6.5 inch speakers; saddlebag lids commonly take 6x9 inch speakers. Measure before you order, and check whether your bike needs adapter rings — many Harley-Davidson models do.
3. Weather resistance matters
Your speakers will get rained on. Choose speakers built for outdoor and powersports use, not standard car door speakers.
4. Plan your amplifier
Loud speakers still need clean power. As a rule of thumb, give each speaker at least 100 watts RMS from a compact Class D amplifier, and your system will stay clear at full volume.
